Strawberry and Ortiz need to be removed from this list; Strawberry because he was too inconsistent and Ortiz because he hasn't shown his ability for the extended duration that the others have.
Also, Ruth needs to be moved to first. I'll let everyone else argue over Bonds and steroids and his placement on this list.
Here are my all time Top 10:
1) Ruth 2) Williams 3) Gehrig 4) Bonds 5) Griffey 6) Eddie Matthews 7) Willie Stargell 8) Reggie Jackson 9) Willie McCovey 10)Mickey Mantle * (Switch Hitter)
Does anyone agree Daryll Strawberry belongs on here??
What about replacing Bonds with Ortiz??
And should Ichiro be on here?
- Since when has Ichiro been seen as a great HR hitter?
- What about Johnny Mize -- add 100 HR lost to World War II and he's right up there. Plus, he had a sweet swing, never bailed out of the batter's box, and very seldom stuck out. One of the most overlooked all-time greats. By sabermetric standards, his figures are almost always in the top 10 or so.... 71.226.54.47 04:49, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- Someone already removed Ichiro, and added Ortiz. Whom would you replace with Mize? nice stats --Brothers 09:49, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- What number rank should Mize be?

Why is Gehrig NOT on the list, yet Strawberry IS? And as much as a Red Sox fan as I am, Ortiz shouldn't be on here...yet. I'm also surprised Rafael Palmeiro hasn't even been so much as MENTIONED yet. Hell, even in the midst of the whole steroid scandal, Bonds is on here. So how come Palmeiro hasn't even gotten so much as a mention yet?
Why is Mel Ott not on this list? Take out Strawberry and put Mel Ott on instead.
Leftie is an incorrect spelling. Lefty is the correct spelling. Could somebody please correct that? None of the edit buttons allow me to change it. Does anybody know how to do it?
Where should Bonds rank?[]
- here's a copy/paste from the template
- While his steroid use is controversial, his home run statistics speak for themselves. Yet i dont think its fair to call him number one, so lets move him down shall we? And move the true best lefthanded hitter up.
- - agreed - you want Ruth?
well how about lets take out Ruth because he played with only white guys how about that?
- up to you - edit permissions are not locked down (unless you vandalize the page). lots of players only played with whites, but was Ruth racist? change the page if you want to - or add Negro League players.
- Ruth should be on this list because he was a great home run hitter. What does playing baseball with only white players have to do with anything?
- Regardless of race, 714 HR speaks for itself. Especially for a pitcher.
